Hsiao Hung Jen has got a lot of face to be able to invite heavenly king Jay Chou to film the MV for his first single "Watch The Sleeves Go Down", Jay Chou praised newcomer Hsiao Hung Jen for acting "natural", the song he's written is easy to listen to and happy, he wished his album would definitely sell 200,000 copies!
To place the main focus on newcomer Hsiao Hung Jen in 2008 Sony BMG are releasing his album on the 23rd of May, for Hsiao Hung Jen this time Sony BMG especially invited, singer-songwriter and director Jay Chou to film the MV; the reason is because this time in Hsiao Hung Jen's new song "Watch The Sleeves Go Down" it mainly uses Mandarin, Taiwanese and English that modern youths usually use to express their views on modern society; and in a lot of Jay Chou's songs it is about the common people's views on society. Add to that Jay Chou's ideas on combining music and video then it gives fans a fresh and creative feeling, that's why the record company thought that only Jay Chou could film this MV, he is the only one who can direct it! But due to the fact he hardly films MVs for other people, unless it's really good music he won't do it, therefore they gave Hsiao Hung Jen's "Watch The Sleeves Go Down" to Jay Chou to "enjoy" while he was promoting in Mainland China, after listening to it Jay Chou immediately responded, he immediately accepted the directing job to film Hsiao Hung Jen's MV; Jay Chou said that after listening to Hsiao Hung Jen's new song repeatedly, it got better and better to listen to, not only this but it's happy listening to his song! And this time is the only other time besides helping Nan Quan Mama and good friends S.H.E. film MVs, it is also the first time filming an MV for a newcomer from another company, you can say he's affirmed Hsiao Hung Jen's music! Being able to obtain this collaboration, besides the record company being happy, Hsiao Hung Jen happily said that being able to get Asia heavenly king Jay Chou to film his MV even before he has released his album, he just feels very excited and lucky, this has given him great encouragement and affirmation!
The busy Jay Chou did everything personally; from listening to the song, the creation of the MV script, creation of backdrops, discussion meetings and also personally guiding actors on the filming set, also adjusting the lighting effects, he did it all himself, you can tell from this the importance of this newcomer to Jay Chou! Due to the fact "Watch The Sleeves Go Down" is a combination of Mandarin, Taiwanese and English youthful rock song, because of this besides getting a rock band into the MV, Jay Chou also targeted the disorderly view of youths towards society the song describes, mainly he put the emphasis on the newcomer's mysteriousness and used society to get the main theme across, besides having the male and female lead appear now and again, the record company spent big on the backdrops, making Jay Chou smile and say that this newcomer Hsiao Hung Jen is very lucky, it's just his first MV and they are already using male and female leads and spending big on backdrops you can tell how valuable the record company see him as, on my side I wish his album will sell 200,000 copies!
In the MV, Jay Chou let Hsiao Hung Jen play himself, playing an artist releasing an album riding on a moped to stick up promotional posters; at the set besides having his eye on the little screen Jay Chou often went over to Hsiao Hung Jen to tell him what expression and movement to use; and after Jay Chou's guidance, from originally being stiff he gradually got good at it, making Jay Chou praise his acting as "natural"; Jay Chou smiled saying that originally the record company didn't want there to be too many scenes of his performance in the MV, but I felt Hsiao Hung Jen's performed very well, very natural, to a newcomer, "being natural" is very important! After getting to know Jay Chou personally Hsiao Hung Jen thinks the feeling he gives people onscreen is about the same, even though he's cool and doesn't say much, but he's friendly, the important thing was that he got to know the Asia heavenly king he sees on TV for one day, it's just too miraculous!
Jay Chou, whose always more cautious when filming MVs for others, said that it's faster getting to the feeling he wants when he's filming his own MVs because he's got a visual and idea when he's writing the song, but when filming MVs for other artists he would have to listen to the song repeatedly and discuss ideas with others before he could ignite different fireworks. After the filming, Jay Chou didn't forget to give Hsiao Hung Jen a suggestion; Jay Chou said that it's important for newcomers to have some mystery, plus Hsiao Hung Jen's writing has a lot of his own style and he's tall enough (182cm), just standing out he won't lose to anyone! At the end Jay Chou joked saying that he has nothing to be worried about if he has this MV.
Suppose to have the MV but the it was removed...
