Taiwan pop sensation Jay Chou retained his popularity among Chinese mobile phone users, ranking first on a list of musicians providing popular ring-tones for the second year.

Chou picked up four awards, including the "most downloaded male singer", at a star-studded awards gala in Beijing on Sunday.

The awards are given out annually by China Mobile, the country's largest mobile phone operator, and are based on the number of paid downloads musicians achieve during the year.

China Mobile says Chou's songs were downloaded 35,719,873 times in the period between January and November, more than twice that of the "most downloaded female singer", Jolin Tsai (16,163,451 times), who also retained her title for the second year.

Chou also won the "most popular film song" for "Rainbow", which he sang for the romantic comedy "Crossed Lines". The song attracted a total of 2,739,206 clicks.

Olympic songs also featured among this year's most popular ring-tones. Liu Huan and Sarah Brightman's duet "You and Me", the theme song of the Beijing Olympics, set a record for the "most downloaded song on a single day". Other Olympic tunes such as "Welcome to Beijing" and "We Are Ready" were also in demand, according to China Mobile.
