Its my turn to do a short review on 'Capricorn'.
Jay Chou introduces his album with the first track Long Zhan Qi Shi (Dragon Knight). Long Zhan Qi Shi provides listeners the feel of the main theme. It is probably the only song in the whole album that really promotes the style of the album's casing. This track can be said as the new Huang Jin Jia (Golden Armour) and I look forward to having it as the opening song of the next Jay Chou concert. This song is the most suitable to have as the 1st track of 'Capricorn'
Gei Wo Yi Shou Ge De Shi Jian (Give/Spare Me the Time of a Song) is the 2nd track of the album which many listeners like. When I first heard it, it sounded rather normal; the usual mandopop stuff that many chinese singers do. When I ran the song through a couple more times, I got to like it slightly more and more. It tends to happen when Jay Chou sings. The MV is...pretty cool. I kind of expected an MV like that as it suits the rhythm and beat of the song. The song flows through till the end but up until this track, Jay still hasn't really shown any of his talents yet.
3rd track is She Wu (Snake Dance). I think many people most probably thought 'Indian' when they first heard this song. This song is very Jay Chou with the rap and all. I like it and I thought the MV rocked. Lara is pretty.
4th track is Hua Hai (Ocean of Flowers). Hua Hai is probably the track that I pay the least attention too. I still don't find anything sparkling about this song until now. It doesn't capture my ears and Jay's vocals here is pretty much unrecommendable.
Next comes Mo Shu Xian Sheng (Mr. Magic). Some may find this song to be all over the place and some may even find it to be weird. This track is definitely different and it is one that I pretty much enjoy listening to. Its special and totally fresh from the previous stuff he has been doing. Its a whole new look on Jay Chou. The whole talking thing in front didn't capture me and I find 37 seconds of chit-chat is abit too long. The MV here is enjoyable despite his new MV trend; the women all over him.
Up next is the track that most people probably find as their favourite. Shuo Hao De Xin Fu Ne (Where is Our Promised Happiness) is also my favourite. Jay does great ballads and no one can deny that. The rhythm, the tune; it all seems perfect here and I'm glad Jay didn't try the same vocal-negative stuff that he did in Hua Hai. The MV isn't anything exciting despite the fact that he can land on the correct keys without having to look at the piano. This track is worth to be favourited.
Lan Ting Xu (Orchid Pavillion) is Jay Chou's 'zhong guo feng' song in this album. I found Qing Hua Ci to be much better despite the fact that both MVs weren't as heart-aching as they were meant to be; at least I thought the dying parts were suppose to be sad. Lan Ting Xu's MV has Jay Chou looking very white singing while a story goes on in the white background. The song itself sounds really 'zhong guo feng' but it actually gets abit boring. (at least for me it does)
Liu Lang Shi Ren (Wandering Poet) was what I thought to have a melodious tune but it didn't turn out as what I expected. The duet stuff is allright and the song flows through. My favourite part of the song would be the part where Jay raps.
Lets move on to Shi Guang Ji (Time Machine). Its a feel good song with nice music and an enjoyable MV that has a very creative storyline. Jay Chou's doraemon guitar caught my eyes the most. The MV may resemble Yang Guang Zai Nan. This song has a length of 5 minutes and I find it to be slightly too long as the chorus repeats a number of times.
Next is Qiao Ke Shu Shu (Uncle Joker). Some may find the laughing part to be pretty scary but I think its part of the song that must be there in order for it to be....jokerish? Once again, this MV consists of that new trend of Jay's as mentioned above. I found him being the white Joker swinging to be abit scary and I think its abit weird to have him puff so much perfume on himself. Its a pretty nice rap-up song and I actually like his woodpecker outfit and the dot on his face. This track and Mo Shu Xian Sheng is probably the 2 tracks that doesn't pretty much relate to the album cover.
Lastly, Dao Xiang (Paddy Fragrance) comes in. It is the first track that was released before all the other tracks and I found this song to be the one that I could connect to the most. The lyrics are simple and it is easy to sing. Its a meaningful feel good song that relates to the public. I like the MV; it was really raw. So kampung orh!
The album is pretty fresh comporating to all of Jay's old stuff. It has a pretty cool theme to it with the magic and all. I found it to be a whole new look on Jay himself. He found something that he could relate to and has explored it in this album. I think shy Jay has blossomed but still, I don't think all those women are necessary. :D
Thats all I have to say on the album. I'll be back.
Bye!
